Seven puppies, and one result we didn't want
Skye's second litter, by Tucker: four black, two yellow and one chocolate. Six of the seven now have OFA final hips and elbows. Five pass. Moose, a yellow male, was rated Mild hip dysplasia at 25 months.
We paid the guarantee — $1,500 — the week his family sent us the OFA letter; they kept Moose, as nearly everyone does. He's lean, hunts pheasants three days a week on a joint supplement, and so far needs nothing more.
What we did with it: we looked at both lines. Tucker's other x-rayed offspring all pass; so do all of Skye's other pups. One Mild in a litter isn't a pattern, but we haven't repeated this pairing, and since 2023 we pay $100 toward every puppy's OFA finals so that we see every result, not just the good ones.
