The Rivers litter

Wren × Rook, born May 14, 2024

Wren’s second and last litter: three males and three females, named after the creeks that run into the Hudson. All six are BAER-normal. Kinderhook finished his championship in August at 27 months; Wallkill is a Senior Courser; Roeliff visits a hospice every week.

One thing went wrong. Rondout’s right testicle never descended. Cryptorchidism is partly hereditary, so we told every family in the litter, his family before they took him home, and the Fallowfield breeders. His vet neutered him at ten months; he is healthy. None of Rook’s other ten puppies has had a retained testicle, and both Orchard males had both testicles down by eight weeks. We will report any recurrence here.

News from the Rivers litter

    Kinderhook is a champion

He took his second major at 27 months, handled by his co-owner Mark. Our first champion from Wren and Rook, and Rook’s first champion offspring.

Two-year echoes: Wallkill and Roeliff normal

Both had advanced cardiac exams by a board-certified cardiologist at 24 months: normal. We cover half the cost of a cardiologist echo for every Ashgrove dog after its second birthday; the results go into our litter records.

Five of six at the reunion

Our annual Ashgrove picnic and Fast CAT practice in the back field: five of the Rivers litter came, with Esopus clocking 30.1 mph. Saw Kill came from Brooklyn and slept through most of it.
