Whippets for the ring, the field and the sofa.

We are Ellen and Tom Varga. We breed one litter of whippets a year, show them, course them and live with them in the house. Every result is published, the price is on the page, and every dog we breed can come home to us for life.

From the puppy diary

  1. Macoun lying indoors with her red collar, week 9

    October 5, 2026

Week 9: car rides, crates, and four families confirmed

Everyone has now done three short car rides in a crate, one of them to the feed store and back. Macoun was carsick the first time and fine the second. Winesap barked the whole way and fell asleep at the end of the driveway.

Matching is done: Macoun to Kingston, Russet to Rhinebeck, Pippin to Ithaca, and Cortland is staying. Winesap is still open to an approved active home — if that is you, apply and say so in the last box.

Go-home weekend is Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11. Each family has a two-hour slot; bring the crate, nothing else.

  2. Cortland, fawn and white with a dark mask, in her collar and name tag against the grass, week 8

    September 28, 2026

Week 8: eyes, ears and microchips

All five had their puppy eye exam with an ACVO ophthalmologist today: no abnormalities. BAER testing was on Thursday at the specialty clinic in Kingston: all five hear in both ears. The certificates go into each folder.

Microchips went in at the same visit and are enrolled with AKC Reunite. We transfer each one into the new owner’s name on go-home day.

Cortland has her own name tag now, since she is staying. She wore it out to the puppy yard and sat for the camera for exactly one frame.

From the families

They told us about Monty’s left ear before we ever met him, and dropped the price without being asked. Four years on, he sleeps through thunderstorms and the vacuum, and he is the best dog we have had.

Ellen asked more questions than our adoption agency did. Then she sent a weekly weight chart and a video of Esopus’s seven-week test. We knew who we were getting.
Priya and Sam, Kingston NY — Esopus, Rivers litter (2024)
Fennel is ten and still sleeps under the duvet. When a murmur showed up last year, Ellen wanted the echo report before we had even got home from the cardiologist.
