1 of 7 still looking for the right homeThe Wildflower litter

Golden Retrievers raised in our kitchen, one litter a year.

We are Helen and Rob Ashworth. Since our first litter in 2013 we have bred eight litters of show-type Goldens for family homes, all from one family of bitches. Every hip score, eye certificate and DNA result is on this site, and so is what didn't go perfectly.

Seven weeks: assessments done, families matched

Our friend Jo Kerridge did the temperament assessments this morning. She trains gundogs near Chipping Norton and has never met the puppies. Each puppy spent about ten minutes with her in a room they hadn't been in before: following, being gently held, retrieving a dummy, a dropped tray, an umbrella opening and the wobble board. We wrote it all down, put it next to seven weeks of our own notes, and spent the afternoon matching.

Every family has now had a phone call. Five puppies have homes to go to, Campion is staying with us, and Yarrow is still looking for the right home. He is a busy, bold boy who would love a family that wants to train. Weights are between 4,060 g (Sweetie) and 5,060 g (Sorrel).

Six weeks: microchips, a car ride and the hoover

All seven were microchipped by our vet this morning. Two of them squeaked, and all of them recovered in the time it takes to say 'chicken'. On Sunday each puppy had its first car ride in a crate: a ten-minute loop to the village and back, with Rob driving very slowly. Nobody was sick.

The hoover now runs every day while they eat. Sweetie, who was the most worried by it last week, ate through it today without looking up.

From Meadowbrook families

We were told about Rowan's epilepsy before any vet had a name for it. Helen rang every family in the litter that week. She still asks after him every month.

Maisie is eight and still the best decision we ever made. When we asked about a second dog, Helen told us to wait for the right litter. We waited two years for Sorrel.

A word about scams

Photographs of our dogs have been copied onto other people's adverts before. This is our only website. Our only phone number is 07700 900461, and our only email address is hello@meadowbrookgoldens.co.uk.

We never send a puppy anywhere sight unseen and never hand one over in a car park or at a service station. You collect your puppy from our home, where you will have met its mother. We take payment only by UK bank transfer to an account in Helen's name, never by gift cards, crypto, money-transfer services or payment to a third party. If someone offers you a 'Meadowbrook' puppy any other way, it is not us. Please ring us.
