Australian Shepherds from a working sheep farm in the Wicklow hills.

We are Niamh and Ciarán Doyle. Our dogs work 140 ewes, run agility at weekends and sleep in the kitchen. We breed for sound hips and eyes, a clear head on stock and an off-switch in the house — and we publish every result, carriers included.

Week 6: chips, swabs and the first proper visitors

All seven were microchipped by our vet yesterday and cheek-swabbed for MDR1 and DM; the swabs went to Laboklin the same afternoon and results usually take eight to ten days. Nobody minded the chip much — Derry complained loudly, then ate her dinner.

Four families visited this week, one at a time, shoes off and hands washed. The puppies now go out to the puppy garden for most of the day and come in at dusk. Weights are all up between 700 and 870 g on last week; Vartry is still the smallest and still gaining well.

Next week: the litter eye screen and the temperament assessment on 14 October, then matching on the 15th and 16th.

  2. 30 September 2026

Week 5: the farmyard, the car and the ducks

First short trips across the yard in a crate on the quad trailer, first ten-minute drive to the village and back. Annamoe and Avoca slept; Slaney watched the hedges go by. The ducks came to the puppy-garden fence on Tuesday and Slaney spent twenty minutes staring at them, which is the kind of thing we write down.

Wormed at 2 and 4 weeks so far; the 6-week dose is due on the 7th. Solid food four times a day now; Sorcha feeds them only morning and night.

What we will always do

Never merle to merle

A double merle puppy can be born deaf, blind or both. Every merle we breed is mated to a tested non-merle, and every parent's M-locus result is on its page.

The merle explainer

Tell you about MDR1

Sorcha and Lasair carry one copy of the MDR1 drug-sensitivity gene. Every puppy is tested and goes home with a card for your vet.

Meet you here

You meet the puppy and its mother in our house, and you collect it from our house. We never ship and never hand over in a car park.

Take the dog back

At any age, for any reason, for the dog's whole life. It is in the contract, and we have done it: Robin, 2025.

Our terms

From families

We drove up from Cork twice before we were matched, and Niamh rang us back after the first visit to say she thought a different pup would suit us better. She was right. Rós has her Grade 3 now.

When our plans to move to Perth fell into place, the hardest call was to Fernhill. They took Robin back the same week and had him on a farm in Carlow within three weeks. They still send us photos.

Merlin had his first trial in May and qualified on ducks. He is the steadiest young dog I have had and he still comes in and lies on the children's feet at night.

A note on scams

This is our only website. We never ship a puppy, never sell one unseen, and never take payment by gift card, money transfer service or to anyone else's account. Every puppy is collected from our home, with its mother there, by the family who met it.

Our photographs and text have been copied onto adverts before. If you see our dogs or our name on DoneDeal, a social media page or any other site, it isn't us — ring us on +353 87 555 0142 and we will tell you.
